Research Areas

Over the last years I have been deeply involved in low energy electron (LEE) interactions leading to negative ion formation via dissociative electron attachment (DEA) or electron ionisation (EI), electron scattering processes from isolated molecules, electron transfer in neutral potassium collisions with gas phase isolated targets and VUV spectroscopy studies. DEA and EI studies have been carried out in close collaboration with the universities of Innsbruck, Siedlce and Iceland. From these collaborations it is worth stressing the protective power of water molecules to pyrimidine units proven by DEA studies. Understanding the radio effectiveness of 3-Brpyruvic acid has been described by means of DEA complemented with photoabsorption excitation studies. The effects of LEE interactions with platinum compounds have been studied in collaboration with the University of Iceland together with the University of Florida, US. In these studies, possible FEBID precursors such as Pt(CO)2Cl2 and Pt(CO)2Br2 have been investigated. The DEA and EI results show how the bond energy of Pt-halogen can dictate the formation of bare platinum anion. These findings are very important for pure metal deposition in nanotechnology. A crossed beam apparatus is under development. This set-up consists of a trochoidal electron monochromator with electron energy resolution of about 100meV coupled with a reflectron time-of-flight mass spectrometer. The set-up is almost fully operational with the first results expected by the end of the year.
